Structure

How it works

An IBAN starts with a country code and two check digits. We move the first four characters to the end, convert letters to numbers and take modulo 97. The remainder must be 1.

A mathematically valid IBAN does not prove the account exists at a bank.

Country First 2 letters

Each country has a fixed length (RO = 24).

Check MOD-97

If the remainder is not 1, the IBAN is wrong.

BBAN The rest

For RO: 4-character bank code + 16-digit account.

Important: Do not send someone else’s IBAN in chat. Checks here run only in the browser.

Useful notes

  •   The RO sample is the standard test IBAN (bank AAAA), not a real account.
  •   SEPA and other countries with a known length are accepted.
  •   The validator does not query a bank and does not send money.
  •   Reloading the page clears the field.
