EAN/UPC = retail (digits plus a check digit). Code128 = SKU, lot, ASCII text.
Auto picks A/B/C. C is digits only, in pairs. A is uppercase and control chars.
For EAN/UPC you can omit the check digit — we compute it. Code128 accepts text.
The digits or SKU shown under the barcode. Turn it off if you only want the lines.
Taller bars scan more easily from a distance. Compact fits narrow labels.
Thicker bars survive print better. Thin bars fit small labels.
White space around the code. Without it a scanner can miss the start.
Black on white is the safest. Weak contrast fails the scan.

How this barcode generator works
Pick a format (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A or Code128), type the value and get a 1D barcode. EAN/UPC are for shelves; Code128 is for SKUs, lots or internal IDs. QR is a different tool — squares, not bars.
For EAN and UPC you can type the number without the check digit: we compute it. Download PNG (screen, posters) or SVG (vector print). Everything is drawn in the browser.
Retail
EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC
Digits plus a checksum. EAN-13 is the European standard; UPC-A is the North-American one.
Internal
Code128
Letters, digits, hyphens. Subset C compresses long digit strings.
Export
PNG and SVG
PNG for screens. SVG for print, without pixelation.
Important:
A public EAN on a real product must be yours (GS1). A made-up number can collide with another item. Keep the white quiet zone when you print.
Useful notes
- QR and barcode are not the same: QR is 2D (link, Wi-Fi); a 1D barcode is for shelves and laser scanners.
- EAN-13 has 13 digits. If you type 12, the last (check) digit is computed here.
- Code128 C only works with an even number of digits.
- SVG is better for print; PNG is enough on screen or in Word.
- Nothing is saved on the server. Reloading the page clears the fields.
