How this CNP validator works
A CNP has 13 digits: sex and century, date of birth, county, a serial and a check digit. The tool checks the format, whether the date exists, whether the county is known and whether the last digit is correct.
The check digit uses the weights 2 7 9 1 4 6 3 5 8 2 7 9. “Valid” only means the number is well formed, not that the person exists in a register.
Check
Last digit
If it does not match, the CNP is mistyped or incomplete.
Date
Day, month, year
31 February or 29 February in a non-leap year will fail.
Place
County or sector
01–46, 51 and 52. 41–46 are Bucharest sectors.
Important:
Do not send someone else’s CNP in chat or to an unknown site. Checks here run only in the browser. A mathematically valid CNP does not prove identity.
Useful notes
- The sample on this page is made up (15 January 1990, Bucharest). It is not a real person.
- S = 1/2 twentieth century, 5/6 twenty-first, 3/4 nineteenth, 7/8 resident, 9 foreign.
- Călărași is 51, Giurgiu is 52 — they appeared after the county split.
- The validator does not query MAI, ANAF or any other database. It does not save the CNP.
- Reloading the page clears the field.
